PR: The construction of the RUNE optical network has begun in the Municipality of Gornja Radgona!
Gornja Radgona, June 15, 2023: The RUNE project, which is building a broadband optical network, was presented at a press conference in Gornja Radgona. The project also includes the Municipality of Gornja Radgona, where network construction began this month. The press conference was also attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Gornja Radgona, Urška Mauko Tuš, and Branko Novak, President of the Gornja Radgona Regional Chamber of Crafts and Entrepreneurship.
In June, the construction of a broadband optical network began in the Municipality of Gornja Radgona as part of the RUNE project. The municipality is included in the project, which covers several municipalities, namely the municipalities of Apače, Benedikt, Tišina and a smaller part of the municipality of Sveta Ana (35a), as well as the municipalities of Beltinci, Benedikt, Cerkvenjak, Križevci, Lenart, Sveti Andraž v Slovenske gorice, Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici, Tišina and Veržej.
Activities for the current project (internally designated S35a) began towards the end of last year. The active acces node for providing optical signals is located in Plitvice in the Municipality of Apače. Ground works in the Municipality of Gornja Radgona began in June. Construction will first begin in the settlement of Podgrad, then in the settlement of Hercegovščak, followed by the center of Gornja Radgona. Otherwise, in the Municipality of Gornja Radgona, the settlements of Aženski vrh, Črešnjevci, Gornja Radgona, Hercegovščak, Lastomerci, Lokavci, Lomanoše, Norički Vrh, Orehovci, Orehovski Vrh, Plitvički Vrh, Podgrad, Police, Ptujska Cesta, Spodnja Ščavnica and Zbigovci will be covered as part of the afformentioned project. The settlements of Gornji Ivanci, Ivanjski Vrh, Kunova, Negova and Spodnji Ivanci will be covered as part of the second project (S37), which has not yet started.
Urška Mauko Tuš, mayor of the municipality of Gornja Radgona, emphasized that this is an exceptional achievement for the municipality, as it is planned that over 3,500 households at approximately 1,600 addresses will receive fiber optic internet connections as part of the RUNE project.

The new network will provide users with access to a faster, more reliable and higher quality internet connection, which will significantly improve the quality of living, education and work in rural areas. A high-quality network will also certainly contribute to the development of the entire economy in the Pomurje region.
The construction of broadband optical infrastructure is also welcomed by Branko Novak, president of the Gornja Radgona Regional Chamber of Crafts and Entrepreneurship, who is convinced that optical internet enables faster development of the local and regional economy and gives it a much-needed new impetus to achieve its goals.
To speed up the work, the construction of the network between settlements (the so-called primary network) and the network to users and user connections (the so-called secondary network) will be carried out almost simultaneously. The work in this area is expected to be completed next year, while the construction of user connections will probably take a little longer.
At the same time, the construction of the RUNE network is already underway or will begin in some other municipalities in Pomurje. As part of the project with the internal name S39, the municipalities of Cankova, Grad, Hodoš, Kuzma, Moravske Toplice, Puconci, Rogašovci, Šalovci and a smaller part of the municipality of Murska Sobote are also involved in the construction. Optical signals will be provided to the aforementioned municipalities by an active acces node located in Mačkovci in the municipality of Puconci. Work is already underway in the municipalities of Grad in the settlement of Grad. In the municipality of Puconci, in the settlements of Vaneča and Bokrači and in Otovci, where we have already connected the first users to the RUNE network, thus enabling them access to a better, faster and more reliable internet connection.
The inclusion of an address in the RUNE project can be checked on the website www.ruralnetwork.eu, where, simultaneously with the construction of the infrastructure, the connection can also be ordered. The cost of connecting to an optical connection according to the currently valid price list is EUR 150.00 (VAT included) for individuals or EUR 167.13 (VAT included) for legal entities, and at the request of the subscriber, this amount can be covered by the selected service provider. Users also have the option of choosing between all the largest operators in Slovenia.
About the project
The RUNE project in Slovenia is implemented by the company RUNE Enia d.o.o. RUNE is the first and at the moment also the only cross-border project at the EU level, which connects the territories of several member states with ultra-fast broadband optical infrastructure, which received funds from the private Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF). The latter is the majority owner of Rune Group S.A., which owns the companies RUNE Enia (Slovenia) and RUNE Crow (Croatia).
In early December 2019, the RUNE project was awarded the EU Broadband Award by the European Commission as the best project in the category.
